Brazilian jiu-jitsu stems from traditional Japanese jiu-jitsu and judo. Originally, Japanese immigrant Mitsuyo Maeda taught judo to the now famous Gracie family. The Gracie’s were able to modify judo in order to emphasize technique and leverage over strength and power. The Gracie’s famously brought Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) to the United States via the UFC and demonstrated its effectiveness. We firmly believe that jiu-jitsu is for everyone and can be effective in self defense scenarios. We will promote a family friendly and safe environment for all.
